Evans blows up Radio 2 microwave

Chris Evans has blown up a microwave while cooking a baked potato at BBC Radio 2.

The DJ put the potato in to cook shortly before his show aired at 5pm, causing an explosion which resulted in Euston fire brigade visiting the studios.

Evans told listeners: "I'd like to dedicate this show to Euston fire brigade. Someone here, who shall remain nameless, caused them to be called out after they got the timings wrong for cooking a baked potato."

When a team member on the radio show commented "It was you Chris," he admitted: "How stupid. I'd only chosen a small potato because it was 15 minutes before we went on air.

"I didn't think it would end up with fireman all over the third floor of the BBC. I'm very sorry."
