Britney Spears will no longer have to stand trial for a hit-and-run after charges against her were dropped.

The singer scraped Kim Robard-Rifkin's vehicle in a car park in August and was told to hand over $1,000 to her in damages.

Spears was accused of making a hit-and-run when she assessed the damage then walked into a nearby building.

But her lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan, has confirmed that there will be no further action taken and Robard-Rifkin "is very sympathetic toward Britney and hopes the best for her".

The star will still have to appear in court next month over a separate charge for driving without a valid California driver's licence. Spears has pleaded not guilty.
