Doherty defends 'healthy' Winehouse
Pete Doherty has defended Amy Winehouse and insisted that she does not need help because she is "healthy" and "happy".

The Babyshambles frontman, who put in a hit performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich last night, was praised for looking healthy and being on good behaviour.

But Winehouse was slated for her appearance during the show, and was booed when she came on stage to collect her Artists' Choice award when she simply mumbled "Thanks" by way of an acceptance speech.

But when Doherty was asked what advice he would give the troubled singer, he claimed she did not need help, saying: "I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.

"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong."

Doherty and Winehouse were rumoured to be organising a duet at the MTV EMAs, and although it never happened, Doherty revealed that it could be something they would do at a later date. He said before his performance last night: "We're not doing anything tonight but we will be doing something in the future."
