Holmes finishes New York marathon

Katie Holmes has finished the New York marathon in just under five and a half hours.

The actress completed the 26.2 mile trek across the US city yesterday morning.

Holmes was met by her parents, mother-in-law and husband Tom Cruise at the finish line of the race.

Cruise told America's People magazine that he was very proud of his wife's achievements, claiming he was "inspired" by her efforts.

She told reporters at the end of the race: "I'm good, but I'm feeling very tired."
