A Los Angeles court told Spears that she would have to hand over $120,000 to Federline immediately due to the difference in the pair's earnings and the fact that most of the issues in the court case are dealing with Spears' behaviour.
Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon said that there was an "obvious disparity between the parties' incomes" and that the "vast majority of the litigation deals with (Spears') conduct", according to the Press Association.
Last week, files showed that the singer earned about $737,000 a month in the last year, while Federline made just $7,436 after business expenses were deducted.
The pair are due back in court on November 26 to continue the custody case over two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James.
