Robert Redford has accused modern celebrities of being "obsessed" with looking young.

The 71-year-old said he is comfortable with the ageing process and cannot understand why stars choose to have cosmetic surgery to hold onto their youth.

He said: "I keep thinking, and I mean this when I say it, when do we get past this? I can't speak for Europe but certainly in my country [the US], there's an obsession with youth. People trying to stay young and face-lifting and all that, which I haven't done."

The actor recently hinted that he may tie the knot with girlfriend Sybille Szaggars.
