Kanye West thanks fans for condolences

Kanye West has issued a statement thanking his fans for their support and their "kind words" since his mother Donda West died on Saturday.

The rapper's mum passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 58 following cosmetic surgery complications.

Today a cosmetic surgeon revealed that Donda's death could have been prevented, but she had ignored his advice to not go under the knife for a breast reduction and a tummy tuck. He was concerned about her age and a heart condition.

West has now thanked everyone for their condolences since the news broke. The West family said in the statement: "Kanye West, his family and friends would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words that have come in from across the country since the death of his mother, Dr. Donda West."

They also asked for people to donate money to the foundation that both Kanye and Donda set up called Loop Dreams, which aims to cut the number of school drop-outs in America.

The statement continued: "In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dr. West's name to the Kanye West Foundation/Loop Dreams Teacher Training Institute."

Details about the funeral have not yet been confirmed.
