Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been mourning the death of his mother and was spotted drinking cider as he walked around London yesterday morning.

The Match Point actor's mum Geraldine passed away in Ireland's Cork hospital hours before he was seen drowning his sorrows.

Meyers' mother had raised him on her own after his father walked out on him when he was just three years old, taking his two older brothers with him.

Geraldine previously revealed that Meyers was lucky to survive his premature birth, explaining: "Doctors said he'd die."

A source said: "Jonathan was very close to his mother. He's absolutely devastated. You can't blame him for having a drink at this time."

The actor, who is currently starring in TV drama The Tudors, has had a bad week following an arrest at Dublin Airport when he started a row after being told he was "unfit to travel".

Meyers was charged with being drunk and disorderly and for breach of the peace under the Public Order Act.
