Michael Flatley has made his comeback performance on US talent contest Dancing With The Stars after recovering from his illness.

The Riverdance star gave his first performance since he was hospitalised last December with a mystery immune virus that almost killed him.

Flatley received a standing ovation after performing with his crew for three minutes dressed as an aircraft pilot.

The routine was taken from his current creation Celtic Tiger, for which he had been rehearsing when he was taken ill. He then cancelled the 20-date European tour because it was thought his condition was so serious he may not be able to dance again.

Flatley, whose son was born in April after his release from hospital, has been tested for every known virus but doctors were unable to determine what had caused the Lord of the Dance star's illness.

The Dancing With the Stars final takes place next week with the three remaining contestants Spice Girl Mel B, Marie Osmond and racing driver Helio Castroneves competing for the winner's title.
