Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea was left devastated at the weekend when his house was "burnt to a crisp" by a blaze in Malibu, California for the second time in just over a month.

Flea's $4.8 million (£2.4 million) home was one of 49 properties that were ruined in the fire on Sunday night, according to a text message he sent out following the blaze.

The musician, real name Michael Balzary, bought a house in Malibu for $10 million (£5 million) last year, but the one that burnt down was another that he owned in Corral Canyon, according to the LA Times. It was up for sale on the website of an LA-based estate agent.

Salam-News reported: "So far 4,650 acres burned in the fire which has been determined to have been caused by humans. Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Rick Dominguez says that the fire broke out Saturday morning along a dirt road off a paved highway, and that investigators are still deciding if it was started intentionally."
