Kidman receives apology over perfume claim

Nicole Kidman has received an apology from a newspaper which claimed that she had jeopardised her position as celebrity spokeswoman for perfume Chanel No.5.

An article in The Daily Telegraph last month stated that Kidman's favourite scent was in fact Jo Malone's White Jasmine and Mint. The report added that she had been spotted "dabbing it on whenever she had a moment" while promoting her new movie The Golden Compass in the UK.

Kidman's legal representatives insisted that the allegations were "entirely untrue" and asked for a retraction to be printed.

In yesterday's edition, the newspaper offered its "sincere apologies" for the embarrassment that the article caused for the actress.

It added: "We now accept that it was entirely untrue to allege that Nicole Kidman had been openly using and promoting a competitor's product."
