Spector is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson after she was found shot dead at his LA home in 2003.
In September the jurors reached an impasse after they were unable to agree on a clear decision.
Doron Weinberg has proposed to Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler that he needs five months to look over Spector's case from his first trial before he can proceed.
Spector's only remaining lawyer, Christopher Plourd, is not able to try the case until next year because he is already busy with two death penalty cases. The other members of the original defence team either quit or were sacked following the first trial.
The prosecution claims that Spector shot Clarkson, but the record producer's team has insisted that she killed herself.
