'X Factor' champ Leon

Here's Digital Spy's quick-fix rundown of the weekend's top entertainment stories.

First off, X Factor voters delivered one of the television surprises of the year, let alone the weekend, by voting Leon Jackson top on Saturday's final (more).

Dannii Minogue, meanwhile, was the show's off-screen winner with both Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh rushing to put in a good word for their newest colleague (more).

In other prime-time news, Catherine Tate has confirmed she won't be returning to Dr Who after the next series. She also suggested, more interestingly, that neither would latest Doctor incarnation David Tennant himself (more).

The weekend's biggest soapland news came from Emmerdale, where it was confirmed Ben Freeman (Scott Windsor), who faces legal proceedings after a rape allegation, would not have his contract at the show renewed (more).

There were also key updates for comeback pop fans this weekend. First, Gary Barlow, putting another nail in a pretty secure coffin, confirmed there was no hope of Robbie Williams returning to the Take That fold (more).

Second, as the Spice Girls successfully pulled off the first gig in their O2 Arena run, Emma Bunton declared they would not become a permanent fixture. She wants to continue spending more time with her family, she said (more).
