The Beatles were called 'traitors' by fans

Published Wednesday, Dec 19 2007, 16:18 GMT | By Kimberley Dadds
The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has revealed that the band were called 'traitors' by people who lived in their home city of Liverpool when they moved.

The musicians left the town behind in the 1960s to set up home and work in London, causing outrage from the locals.

But Starr has insisted that they were forced to move out in order to become successful and find enough work to get by in the capital city.

He said: "We only left because we had to go where the jobs were, and in those days it was London.

"Now you can live in Liverpool, Leicester... it doesn't matter but at the time people were shouting 'traitors, you left us'. But we never let Liverpool down and we're always still proud of our heritage."
