Burke 'almost died' from superbug

Kathy Burke has revealed that she almost died after contracting a superbug following an operation.

The actress was being treated for abdominal and glandular problems at a London hospital when she caught Clostridium difficile.

The 43-year-old, who is also a theatre director, had to take a year off work and lost two stone as a result of the illness.

She told the Daily Mail: "I got quite ill last year with loads of stuff. It all happened at once. I had that C.difficile hospital bug that everyone is going on about. It was an experience. There's not much they can do. They just let you get on with it. It's a breakdown of the whole immune system."

However, she insisted that she did not blame the NHS, saying: "To be fair, I did catch the bug because something else was seriously wrong with me that nobody knew about. My adrenal glands were packing in.

"Once they opened me up and operated on me, I was susceptible to lots of other things."
