Efron has emergency appendix surgery

High School Musical star Zac Efron has undergone emergency surgery to remove his appendix.

The actor was given an appendectomy yesterday after being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

His spokeswoman Gina Hoffman said: "Zac had his appendix removed and is recuperating."

Disney announced on Monday that Efron and co-star Vanessa Hudgens have signed to appear in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, the third instalment of the hit franchise.

The 20-year-old recently admitted that he is baffled by the media's interest in his personal life.
