Murphy splits with wife after two weeks

Eddie Murphy has split with his wife just two weeks after their wedding.

The actor married film producer Tracey Edmonds on a private island off Bora Bora on New Year's Day.

However, it was later reported that the ceremony was invalid because they had not lived near the location for at least 30 days.

Despite insisting that they would repeat their vows in the US, the couple released a statement to People magazine revealing that they had abandoned the idea.

It read: "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further.

"While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends."
