Johnny Depp has donated £1 million to the hospital that saved his daughter's life.

The actor also visited London's Great Ormond Street to thank staff in person for taking care of Lily-Rose.

The eight-year-old, Depp's daughter with singer Vanessa Paradis, was rushed to the famous children's hospital last March when her kidneys failed after she contracted E. coli poisoning.

Depp was forced to postpone filming of Tim Burton's horror musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to be at her side.

Lily-Rose was released from hospital nine days later and has made a full recovery.

Depp is believed to have invited the five doctors and nurses who tended to her to the movie's London premiere party last month.

He also made an unannounced visit to the hospital on November 29 and spent four hours reading bedtime stories to its young patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. He had flown his Pirates of the Caribbean costume from LA for the occasion.
