Gary Glitter is recovering in a Vietnamese hospital after suffering a heart attack in prison.

A judge in the country sentenced him to a three-year jail term in 2006 after finding him guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old and 12-year-old girl. Glitter claimed his conviction was a "conspiracy".

Yesterday the News Of The World reported that the former singer, real name Paul Gadd, was hospitalised last Sunday after he was found clutching his chest and struggling to breathe.

His nurse is quoted as saying: "Mr Gadd suffered a heart attack. He remains very frail and his blood pressure is still dangerously high. When he is well enough he will go back to prison but at the moment he is still a very sick man."

The paper published photos apparently showing Glitter recovering in the garden of Benh Vien hospital.

It also said ill-health grounds could be used to get his prison term reduced, though he may choose to go to Hong Kong to avoid public attention.
