Jeremy Paxman has gone public with his disappointment at the quality of men's underpants at Marks and Spencer.

The political interviewer expressed his displeasure in an email to the store's chief Stuart Rose which was published in The Times yesterday.

The BBC heavyweight explained: "I have noticed that something very troubling has happened. There's no other way to put this. Their [Marks and Spencer's] pants no longer provide adequate support."

Paxman revealed that he had shared this grievance with his friends and found the complaint of "gusset anxiety" to be widely felt.

"These are matters of great concern to the men of Britain," he continued. "I just felt that it was time that somebody raised this with the only man who can sort it out."
