Simpson demands apology over story

Jessica Simpson has demanded an apology from America's OK! magazine over claims that she has split with boyfriend Tony Romo.

TMZ reports that the singer's lawyers sent a letter to editor-in-chief Sarah Ivens accusing the magazine of mounting a "smear campaign" against her.

They claimed that an article entitled 'Jessica Dumped!' had opened her to "public contempt, ridicule, aversion or disgrace".

The letter also insisted that the story was "utterly false" and "based on nothing more than rumour, gossip and innuendo".

The item stated that American football star Romo had ditched Simpson after his team was eliminated from the NFL playoffs.

The pair were recently named as one of the richest couples in Hollywood in a poll by In Touch magazine.
