Russell Crowe's Welsh family are mostly volatile and keen drinkers, according to a report.

He will soon discover his ancestors, from near Wrexham, for BBC show Coming Home but The People claims to have tracked them down in advance.

It says one of his living cousins is retired clergyman Philip Crowe. He said: "Russell definitely has characteristics that have been consistent in our family in past generations - intuitive, impulsive, quite volatile and quite fond of a drink.

"There were five or six people in my father's generation who had a serious drink problem. They hit the bottle.

"My dad was fairly volatile and impulsive, like Russell. Even though one ran a fruit and veg company and the other is a world-famous actor, they also share traits including shrewdness and putting an enormous amount of preparation into their work."

Another apparent cousin of the star, farmer Tim Dobson, has earned the nickname Genghis.

"When Crowes fly, they fly like bottled ale - it's a saying that means we are quick to lose our temper," said Dobson. "It's clear Russell and I share the Crowe family traits."
