Beckinsale cat goes up in flames

Kate Beckinsale's pet cat caught fire from a stray candle just before she left her home to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The actress revealed her domesticated feline "went up like a rocket", but had not come to any long-term harm.

Speaking on the red carpet, she said: "Our cat, Clive, caught fire on a candle. As I was getting ready, there was a 'whoosh', like a fireball, and he went up like a rocket."

Talking about her pet's current health, she added: "He's fine. He had no idea what had happened to him."

Beckinsale described the smell of burnt cat hair as "awful".
