Julie Christie marries in secret ceremony

Julie Christie has tied the knot with her long-term partner in a secret ceremony in India.

The actress, who is nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Away From Her, wed journalist Duncan Campbell in December after previously insisting that she saw “no reason” ever to marry.

Her brother Clive revealed that he had not learned of the event until afterwards, saying: "We didn't have any involvement."

The couple, who have been dating for 28 years, exchanged vows near her birth town in the north-east state of Assam.

A friend told the Daily Mail: "She is very private and quite distant from her family. So for Clive to find out she'd actually got married after the event is not all that unusual."

Christie, 66, won the Best Actress gong at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards.
