Britney's father takes control of her affairs

Britney Spears' father has been granted temporary control over the singer's affairs.

Jamie Spears was named as Britney's temporary conservator after he appeared in court yesterday alongside his ex-wife Lynne. The former couple had requested the emergency hearing after their daughter was hospitalised over mental health issues.

Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled that Jamie is a "suitable and qualified person" to take care of Britney's multi-million dollar estate while she is incapable of looking after herself.

The decision also gives Spears' father the power to take control over her hospital visitors, as well as to hire security guards to protect her.

Britney's parents have also filed a restraining order against her friend and manager Sam Lufti, who has been involved in a public feud with the singer's family.

"The specifics of that order are unknown," court representative Allan Parachini said. He added that the status of the order will be heard in court on February 22.
