Spears hospital stay extended by 14 days

Britney Spears has been told by doctors she must remain in the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Centre for an extra 14 days.

The singer was admitted to UCLA last Thursday, but was expected to be released on Sunday following a 72-hour mental evaluation.

Spears' detainment has been sanctioned under a state law which allows medical staff to hold a patient if they believe they are a danger to themselves or others.

Her extended stay means it is unlikely the popstar will attend the latest hearing regarding the custody of her children Jayden James and Sean Preston.

The musician's ex-husband Kevin Federline currently has full custody of the two boys.
