James McAvoy wasn't a hit with girls

James McAvoy has admitted that he wasn't a hit with the ladies when he was a teenager.

The Scottish actor revealed that he had to settle for taking home "stragglers", even when he was in a band with two of his friends.

"It made my bandmates very popular with the girls. I was kind of the third member of the triumvirate," McAvoy told US chat show host Jay Leno. "I was never as cool or hip or sexy as those guys, so I took the stragglers. When I say took the stragglers, I mean took them home."

McAvoy is married to his former Shameless co-star Anne-Marie Duff.
