Tilda Swinton has spoken about her unusual love life.

The 47-year-old, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Michael Clayton, has 10-year-old twins with 67-year-old artist John Byrne. However, she is also romantically involved with New Zealand painter Sandro Kopp, 29, who accompanied her to Sunday's ceremony.

She hit out at critics who have described her personal life as a "ménage à trois-style arrangement", saying: "I don't have a husband. I've never been married. I have children with someone else, with whom I'm bringing up my children. And I've lived with someone else, my sweetheart, for the last three years, and maybe it's extraordinary that we're really all friends.

"What is true is that John and I live with our children and Sandro is sometimes here with us, and we travel the world together. We are all a family."

Swinton also told reporters that she was shocked to win her first Academy Award, saying: "I'm still recovering from that moment, and I have absolutely no idea what happened after that. You can tell me my dress fell off and I'd believe you!"
