Seinfeld: 'Assassin comment was a joke'

Lawyers for Jerry Seinfeld have said that comments the comedian made regarding a woman accusing his wife of plagiarism were meant as a joke.

While appearing on the Late Show With David Letterman, Seinfeld suggested author Missy Chase Lapine was a "crackpot" and compared her to the killers of John Lennon and Martin Luther King Jr.

Lapine, the author of The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favourite Meals, accused Jessica Seinfeld of plagiarizing her cookbook.

Seinfeld's book Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food was published last October, while Lapine's book arrived in April.

Lawyers representing the Seinfelds dismissed the allegations in the court filing, saying: "The idea of sneaking healthy foods into a child's diet is not original to your author."

Jerry Seinfeld recently admitted he is "too old" to bring back his eponymous sitcom series.
