The News of the World has agreed to pay damages to Rosanna Arquette after a report claimed that she had battled drug addiction.
The actress, who starred in Pulp Fiction and Desperately Seeking Susan, complained after the article was published last November.
The newspaper printed an apology yesterday, reading: "We are happy to clarify the situation and apologise to Ms Arquette. In fact, her only involvement with drugs was when she experimented with marijuana when she was a teenager some 30 years ago."
The 48-year-old said: "This upsetting and untrue allegation has caused me a lot of distress. I felt it was something I had to take action about and I feel so much better now that the true position has been made clear."
She revealed that she is donating the sum to The Children's Hospital in LA.
Arquette has been romantically linked to Sir Paul McCartney after the pair were spotted together on a number of occasions.
