Former Radio 1 DJ Andy Kershaw has been freed from prison 44 days after being jailed for breaking a restraining order involving his ex-partner Juliette Banner.

The 48-year-old was handed a suspended jail term in October last year and told to keep away from Banner and her new boyfriend Jim Imrie.

A month later Kershaw approached the pair at Imrie's home in Pell, on the Isle of Man.

He pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order at the High Bailiff's Court in Douglas on the Isle of Man last month.

Kershaw has two children, a ten-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter, with Banner.

The DJ also admitted to sending abusive text message aimed at the couple to his children.

Passing sentence last month, High Bailiff Michael Moyle told Kershaw he was "hell-bent" on destroying himself.

Kershaw recently presented a world music programme for Radio 3. It is not known if he will return.
