Brand lands Rolling Stones play role

Russell Brand will play Keith Richards in a new play about The Rolling Stones, say reports.

The Radio 2 DJ has beaten off competition from Johnny Depp to perform as the guitarist in Kevin Spacey's latest theatrical project, reports the Daily Star.

Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave are also rumoured to be appearing in the production.

Spacey's play is called A Summer In Hell and will tell the story of the veteran rockers' early career. The show is part of a new Pop Art season.

A source said: "There’s practically a cavalcade of A-listers desperate to be involved in the new season.

"The Stones production is the most popular as it charts their action-packed summer in Nice, when they even had a shoot-out with a harbour master."
