The TV presenter is considering splitting his memoirs into two separate books after struggling with the length.
He told Teletext: "Lord Of The Rings didn't take this long!
"I've done 70,000 words and I'm still only up to age 11. So I'm doing it up to when I left Liverpool and moved to London. So the aim is then to write a second one, with all the showbiz."

Take your time, Paul. Don't go giving yourself another heart attack worrying over it. True fans of yours will wait for as it takes. As long as you are happy that's all that matters. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, it's only a book. I am sure that it will be well worth the wait when it comes out.

If you were brought up catholic, especially, you will recognise your family in this book. I really couldn't put it down and when I was still laughing out loud, (at the Virgin Mary bottles of holy water with the blue screw on crowns etc courtesy of Lourdes,'OMG he's been to our house') at 2 am, my husband told me to 'put it down n go to sleep'. Can't recommend it enough, and I'm sure the next will be equally as good - 'please Paul if you read this don't rush it just to please the publicists'. Me and my brother knocked the head off our 18" Virgin Mary statue on top of the telly while playing cricket in the dining room cos it was raining, we stuck it back on - it's still there- thinking Mum n Dad wouldn't notice, it's never been mentioned !!!
