Tilda Swinton has claimed that Harry Potter promotes an unrealistic image of English boarding schools.

The Oscar winner, who attended West Heath Girls' School, Sevenoaks, revealed that she didn't enjoy her schooling and argued that the wizard franchise "fetishises" private education.

She told Out magazine: "I'm loath to say anything good about going to boarding school, which is one of the reasons why I'm not a believer in Harry Potter, because I believe it fetishises boarding school for children."

Swinton won the Best Supporting Actress gong at this year's Academy Awards for her role in Michael Clayton.
