The 15-year-old said she was upset for Spears, who become a close friend after they both worked on teen shows.
Spears, 16, announced that she was expecting a baby last December.
Cyrus told the Daily Mail: “When I first heard she was pregnant, I started crying. I was heartbroken to tell you the truth because she's my friend and I didn't want her life to change.
“But now she's actually getting really excited and even though it's a difficult situation, I'm happy for her now because she's happy that she made the choices she did."
She added that she would not fall into the same trap as Britney Spears, saying: "Well, I'm aware that things can happen but I keep my friends and family superclose and that really helps."
Cyrus is the star of Disney series Hannah Montana, while Spears plays the title role in Nickelodeon's Zoey 101.
