Will Smith denies Scientology claims

Will Smith has denied claims that he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have joined the Church of Scientology.

Speaking to the New York Daily News, Smith said: "You don't have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don't have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don't have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise.

"I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. And I respect all people and all paths."

Tom Cruise has recently come under fire after videos of him talking about Scientology were posted on YouTube. Actors John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, and producer Paula Wagner have defended Cruise's religious beliefs.
