The judge who oversaw the divorce case between Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney has said the former model was "less than impressive" as a witness.

Mr Justice Bennett described Mills as having a "strong-willed and determined personality".

"She has conducted her own case before me with a steely, yet courteous, determination," he added.

However, the judge felt Mills's statements as a witness were unreliable.

"I am driven to the conclusion that much of her evidence, both written and oral, was not just inconsistent and inaccurate but also less than candid.

"Overall she was a less than impressive witness."

In his judgement, Mr Justice Bennett said McCartney had given "balanced" evidence, adding: "He expressed himself moderately though at times with justifiable irritation, if not anger. He was consistent, accurate and honest."

Mills was awarded £24.3 million of Paul McCartney's fortune at yesterday's High Court hearing. Mills had asked for a £125 million settlement, with the former Beatle offering her £15.8 million.
