The ex-Beatle made the revelation during the couple's divorce battle at the High Court, during which Mills was awarded a £24.3 million settlement.
Mr. Justice Bennett's 58-page judgement, which was published yesterday, revealed that the former model had lost a baby before conceiving daughter Beatrice, now four.
McCartney told the court: "We stopped using contraception the night we were married. There was never any question of us doing so before the wedding.
"Heather had one miscarriage before Beatrice was conceived. Neither of us contemplated children before marriage."
He added that he had believed he would be with his new wife forever when they tied the knot in 2002.
Mills, 40, lost two babies to ectopic pregnancies during her first marriage, to dishwasher salesman Alfie Karmal.
