Corbett failed police officer training

Sex And The City star John Corbett has revealed that he failed to make it as a police officer.

The actor, who played Carrie's boyfriend Aidan in the HBO series, said he was thrilled to play an LA cop in new thriller Street Kings because he had not made the grade in real life.

Corbett spent a year training to become an LA County Deputy Sheriff in 1982, six years before landing his first major role in an episode of TV show The Wonder Years.

He said: "I was working in a steel factory as a boiler maker but my dad tried to become a Deputy Sheriff and he didn't make it, so I tried.

"Every three months you go in for agility tests and if you pass that you move on to interviews and oral exams. Ultimately I didn't make it, I wasn't Deputy Sheriff material."

Corbett will star opposite Toni Collette in Showtime's comedy pilot United States of Tara, the latest project by Juno writer Diablo Cody.

He released a self-titled country music album in April 2006.
