The singer impressed critics with her guest spot on US sitcom How I Met Your Mother last week and is now rumoured to be continuing her comeback by turning up at the ceremony on March 29.
A source told OK!: "It's supposed to be top secret, but everyone is already buzzing about it.
"Her sister Jamie Lynn made such a splash at the event last year, Brit knows that she'll get as much, if not more, attention if she shows up this year."
Miley Cyrus and The Naked Brothers Band will perform live at the event, to be hosted by Jack Black.
Johnny Depp, Cameron Diaz and Keira Knightley are among the celebrities nominated for the 21st annual awards.
