R&B star Levert dies in prison

R&B singer Sean Levert has passed away in jail, aged 39.

The popstar, who made up one third of the '80s group LeVert, fell ill while serving a jail sentence for failing to pay child maintenance.

He was taken to Lutheran Hospital after suffering from high blood pressure and hallucinations at Cuyahoga County jail in Cleveland, but died within the hour.

Levert was sentenced last week to one year and ten months in prison after pleading guilty to not paying $89,025 [£45,085] in child support payments.

LeVert, who reached the UK top ten with the track 'Casanova', released two gold certificate albums, The Big Throwdown and Just Coolin'.

Sean's brother Gerald, also a member of LeVert died in 2006 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

The brothers formed the R&B group in 1986 with childhood friend Marc Gordon.
