Turner apologises over Cage libel

Rex Features

Kathleen Turner has apologised for claims she made about Nicolas Cage in her autobiography.

Turner alleged in her book Send Yourself Roses that Cage, her co-star in Peggy Sue Got Married, was arrested twice for drunk-driving and stealing a chihuahua.

Cage took legal action against Turner, accusing her of "defamation, libel and slander".

Cage's UK solicitor Simon Smith said the actor was pleased that the row had ended "since he has never been arrested for drink driving, dog theft or anything else".

Smith added: "As an actor who stars in many family-friendly films and who has a young child and teenager of his own, Mr Cage was understandably upset at having been wrongly depicted as condoning that sort of reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour."

Defendants Turner, book publisher Headline and the Daily Mail, which printed extracts from the book, have all agreed to make a donation to charity.

Headline will add a correction and apology into copies of the book while the newspaper will remove the article from their site and print an apology.
