The singer said the pasta dish was her "comfort food" and that she struggled to replace the meal on her recent diet.
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, Carey commented: "It broke my heart. That's the thing that I have difficulty letting go of because that's comfort food. So basically I'm uncomfortable."
Carey also revealed that her current jean size was the same as when she was at high school thanks to her recent diet, which reportedly helped her shed 30lbs.
"My jean size went down to my 10th grade size," said the 'Touch My Body' singer. "I got tired of people telling me, 'You need to lose weight'. That's what inspired me.
"For me, it's not about a number on a scale. It's not about necessarily even a size. It's about feeling good and being comfortable in your own skin.
"Right now, I feel really great. I feel better than I've ever felt."
