Judicial Watch believes the gig breached election campaign rules by allowing a foreign national to raise proceeds for a candidate.
The group told the Federal Election Commission: "Sir Elton John is not a citizen of the United States and is therefore prohibited from making any contribution to Senator Clinton's presidential campaign."
However, Clinton's election team insisted there was nothing illegal about the show, arguing that John was "volunteering" his services.
A source told the New York Times: "Hillary’s campaign has complied with the law. Since 1987, the FEC has consistently held that foreign nationals may volunteer their time for campaigns on an uncompensated basis.
"Elton John is simply volunteering his uncompensated time to appear at the concert. This appearance is consistent with past FEC rulings."
