Cheeky Girl to marry MP Lembit Opik

Cheeky Girls singer Gabriela Irimia will marry Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik, Hello! reveals.

Opik reportedly proposed to Irimia last week at the Trevi Fountain in Rome. The couple plan to wed next year or in 2010.

Speaking about the moment Opik popped the question, Gabriela said: "We'd gone to the Trevi Fountain that afternoon and each made a wish we kept a secret.

"After a romantic dinner in the evening, Lembit got a taxi to take us back to the fountain, saying he wanted me to see it lit up. There he started talking about our future together, took a gorgeous little box from his pocket, got down on one knee and made his proposal.

"When I said 'yes' he started to cry. Tears of joy poured out of his eyes. I couldn't cry, I was so happy that I just kept smiling and laughing."

Gabriela is one half of the pop group The Cheeky Girls with twin sister Monica. They found fame on Popstars: The Rivals and later had a number two hit with 'The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)'.

Opik allegedly refused to propose to Gabriela when they appeared on ITV's All Star Mr & Mrs.
