Renée Zellweger sold her Los Angeles home to get away from "scary" fans who gathered around the house.

The Leatherheads actress had previously claimed to be moving house because she didn't spend enough time there to justify the high mortgage.

However, she has now admitted that fans showing up on her doorstep prompted the move.

Zellweger said: "I've had fans show up, so it's not a friendly place for a girl who is single to live.

"It can be pretty scary sometimes when they slip letters under the door at your house. And it happens. I get those letters a lot."

The 38-year-old actress recently revealed she wasn't comfortable with being a movie star.
