Messenger speaks about marriage split

Melinda Messenger has explained the reasons behind her trial split from her husband.

It was reported earlier this month that the former model had separated from Wayne Roberts, the father of her three children. The couple have been married for nine years.

She told Hello: "We needed to separate to work out and be clear if staying married is the right thing to be doing for both of us. It’s confusing and difficult but it’s necessary."

She revealed that she had spent a long time coming to the decision, saying: “On the surface it all seemed fine but I felt we’d lost a deep connection that I believe a couple absolutely have to have to be together.

“Two or more years ago our marriage had reached a very bad stage where we had lots of rows and fights. It was awful and it definitely impacted on the kids. It was also having a huge impact on both of us, too, living that way.”

Roberts said of the split: “As far as I’m concerned I’m a married man. I couldn’t begin to think about being with anyone else. Right now that’s not an option... To me, we were going through a bad patch. But my response is just to keep moving through it and come out the other end.”

He added: “But as much as I felt like that, it was not how Melinda felt and you can’t force someone to think like you or feel like you.”
