McDowell: 'Stars shouldn't worry about aging'

Rex Features

Malcolm McDowell has urged his fellow actors to stop worrying about growing old.

The 64-year-old said stars are missing out on the pleasures in life by fretting about their looks.

Talking about his five-decade career, he revealed: "The secret to longevity in showbusiness is to embrace the fact that you are getting older and love it.

"We're all going to physically decline but as long as your spirit stays pretty much intact, then what you look like has nothing to do with it."

He added: "As you change as a human being, you had better change as an actor. You can't rely on the same old s**t that you've been doing."

McDowell made his big screen debut in 1968 movie If... He recently played the villainous Mr Linderman in the first season of Heroes and Dr. Sam Loomis in last year's Halloween remake.
