Tom Cruise regrets Brooke Shields comments

Tom Cruise has admitted that he regrets making his controversial comments about Brooke Shields' use of anti-depressants.

The actor sparked a war of words with Shields in 2005 after he criticised her for turning to medication when she suffered from post-natal depression. His claim that psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs is a "pseudo-science" was later condemned by the American Psychiatric Association.

Speaking about the incident in a new interview with Oprah Winfrey, he admitted: "It came out wrong, it's just not true. I was raised by four women who have children and babies. I'm not trying or want to tell anyone how to live their life or what they should believe or shouldn't believe."

Cruise added that he felt "pressed" by the media at the time and now regrets speaking about certain topics on television. He said: "I felt like I could've handled it better."
