The production, which focuses on three "subtly connected" love stories, will open at the Duke of York's Theatre in July. Francesca Annis, Lisa Dillon, Chris O'Dowd and Dominic Rowan complete the lead cast.
Tate, who currently stars as Donna Noble in Doctor Who, has previously appeared in a number of other stage productions, most notably Neil LaBute's Some Girls, which saw her starring alongside David Schwimmer.
Under The Blue Sky is written by the award-winning David Eldridge. Anna Mackmin will direct the production.
